Week 13 CFCC Wrap: Bowl Blowout Time

by: Sugar (December 4, 2016)

We now have thirteen weeks in the bag for CFCC 2016 and the College Football Playoff Committee has spoken with their final four teams of Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Washington. That means it is time for Bowl Blowout 2016 where the dirty-dawg CFCC field will pick the winners of the playoff games, as well as 22 of the top bowl games on the schedule. More on that in just a paragraph or two.

After 13 weeks, we find 2014 Silver Bone Award recipient, Aidan Binau at the top of the standings with 807 points and a 140-54 record. Aidan also has the most wins with 140. Aidan may want to consider that the dawg with the most wins doesn't usually win the contest. Maybe he doesn't care. Karen Lee has 139 wins and is in 65th place, illustrating yet again how confidence contests are totally different than almost every other contest on the web. Aidan has a 16 point lead over Andrew Kennedy, who is in 2nd place overall with 791 points. Danny Gant, Bob Dukesherer and Greg Wallace round out the Top 5 and will be gunning for the championship. If you are within 50 points of the lead, you are generally considered to have a shot at winning this thing, but dawgs have come from further back than that to win, so anything is possible. Will Aidan play it safe, ride the Vegas line and hope no one can make up the points on him, or will he make some bold picks in an effort to put some distance betwen himself and the others come the National Championship game? Should be interesting to see. It is also always interesting to check on our past winners to see if anyone is threatening and, well well well, we find 2006 champion Derek Eisentrout sitting in 18th place just 55 points off the leading pace. No dawg owns 2 Gold Bones, Derek!

We witnessed some great games during Week 13 and Rusty Painter (is that his real name?) got 12 of the 15 correct for 80 points and the Week 13 honors. Scott Carey was runner-up with 78 points on just 10 wins. It looks like we are going to have an exciting group finish this year with the top 6 teams in a tight race. BuckNutz, powered by the Binau clan, leads the way with an average score of 713 points. Dawgzilla is 2nd with 690 points, followed by Write-in Candidates with 687.67, Swing State Florida Dummies at 687.40 and West Michigan Warriors with 675.15. Finally, We're here to WOW Ya is in 6th with 674.50. We think we know which team BuckNutz will have their big numbers on, so if Ohio State doesn't win it all, the other teams might just have a shot. Good luck to all!

That brings us to the Bowl Blowout format with the College Football Playoff included for the third straight year. The first year we screwed the pooch with a stupid scoring routine that had many dawgers calling for the dd directors resignation. Turned out that no one wanted to do this for free like we do, so everyone let us keep our jobs. Last year's attempt didn't seem to cause too much heartburn, so we will do it that way again. Here's how it works: as always, you must put 1 through 25 on the bowl games that have been selected for this year's blowout. That includes the 2 semi-final games and the National Championship game. The wrinkle is that the confidence points you put on the National Championship game are doubled...win or lose. So if you put 25 on that game and get all of the other ones correct, you will have increased your total points for the season by 350. But remember, if you miss the National Championship game, which includes that team losing in the semi-final, you lose double the points you put on that game. Likewise then, your National Championship game winner must also win their semi-final game. As Indiana Jones was advised one time... choose wisely!

With that said, the Bowl Blowout game form is up and ready for action. The dead line is 2:30 PM CST on Saturday, December 17 when Houston and San Diego State will kick us off in the Las Vegas Bowl. In the meantime, the PFCC keeps cranking away and we'll be back with updates on that contest as it moves along. Good luck with Bowl Blowout 2016!
