Aidan Binau/BuckNutz Win CFCC 2016!

by: Sugar (January 14, 2017)

Another outstanding college football season is in the books capped by another very entertaining National Championship game which was won by the Clemson Tigers on an exciting touchdown pass with 1 second remaining. Congratulations to Clemson as well as Alabama for another impressive year. No doubt, the Crimson Tide will be the team to beat once again in 2017!

It was also another entertaining CFCC here at dirty-dawg.com with determination of the contest champion coming down to the National Championship game! Kenneth Entremont from Reserve, Louisiana finished 3rd for the Bowl Blowout and those picks had him on the edge of the championship and leading overall heading into the Monday night matchup. However, he had big points on the Crimson Tide and took a big loss on the last second of the game which allowed Aidan Binau to take home the crown by 2 points. Who says those 1 confidence game losses don't matter? Aidan had 1 on Ohio State to finish with an overall score of 899 points on a field best record of 156-63. Very impressive. Typically, the contest winner does NOT have the most wins. And the most impressive thing about Aidan? He is only 14 years old! That's right, we all lost to a teenager from Billings, Montana. And if you think this win was a fluke, you will notice young Aidan already has a silver bone by his name for his 2014 runner-up performance when he was, uh, 12 years old. Most kids want to be doctors or lawyers or Internet millionaires, but we think when Aidan turns 18, he might want to relocate from Billings to Vegas and show the book makers how to do their jobs better! Congratulations, Aidan! I usually say I wish we could buy you a new car or something, but since you can't drive (what is the driving age in Montana??), you will just have to be satisfied with the admiration of dirty-dawgers everywhere, forever!

We had other great performances this year as well. We already mentioned Ken Entremont, who came within 2 points of the crown on a great Bowl Blowout performance. Jeri Adams from Ocean Isle Beach, NC (sounds nice) finished third with 895 points. Jeri was one of only 6 dawgs that picked Clemson to win it all. Great job Jeri! San Antonio's Asam Michael finished 4th with 883 points and Nathan (wait for it) Binau, also from Billings, was 5th with 870 points. Steve Friend plays from Lake Forest, IL and finished 6th with 862. Phil Grigsby from Slidell, LA finished 7th, while Brian Walawender of Lenexa, KS was 8th. The Top 10 players for 2016 is rounded out with Rudy Casias from San Antonio, 9th and Cynthia Egbert from Bailey, CO in 10th. Congratulations to these Top Dawgs for their 2016 performance!! You officially have bragging rights.

We mentioned that young Aidan had the most wins at 156. Steve Friend, who finished 6th had 154 wins, while Rudy Casias (9th) had 153. Jon Zeitler also had 153 wins which was good enough for only 37th place, reminding us once again that confidence factors rule!

We had two players tie for the Bowl Blowout Championship, both with 150 points. Melissa McIntier from Layton, Utah and Joe Merchant from Lubbock, Texas both also came in with a record of 18-7. Very impressive job by both dawgs, given the fact that a lot of favorites lost early on the Bowl Blowout. Ken Entremont was 3rd, also with 150 points, but on a 17-8 final tally. John Glueck from Oro Valley, AZ was 4th with 146, while Clemson Tiger picker Jeri Adams was 5th with 144 points on 18 wins. With all of the points on the line in the Bowl Blowout, we typically see a lot of movement, and this year was no different. Joe Merchant was the biggest mover up 154 places to finish in the Top 100. Scott Dukesherer was up 146 places. Craig Sullivan, Ken Drozd, Sean Luchs and Victor Murphy all blasted forward 100 points based on their stellar Bowl Blowout selections. We mentioned earlier that Jeri Adams was one of six dawgs to select Clemson. The other geniuses were Don Adams (related to Jeri we suspect, because we are smart that way), Reggie Reynolds, Brett Whitin, Melissa McIntier and Deanna Wolfe. Reggie had 7 on the Tigers in the championship game, while the others went with 1 point.

That all leaves us with the Group Contest, which also came down to the wire. Multiple year winners, BuckNutz, powered by the Binau clan and the Alabama upset, claimed another group crown by 0.56 point over Dawgzilla. That's right, 0.56 point. The BuckNutz team finished with an average score of 771.56 and Dawgzilla finished at 771. Dawgzilla demanded a recount, calculator calibration check and full congressional review. And they still lost by 0.56 point. Again, the low confidence point values can cost you in the long run. So, congratulations to BuckNutz once again as well as to Dawgzilla for such a great group contest. Write-In Candidates finished 3rd with 747.33, while High Plains Drifters settled into the 4th position with an average score of 721. Another multiple platinum group, The Swing State Florida Dummies wrapped another group play season in 5th place with 719.60 points. And of course there is more to the group contest that the final group standings. Group play allows everyone to have mini-contests within the overall contest and we hope you all enjoyed some good-natured fun along the way.

That will wrap another prolific dirty-dawg CFCC. Barring any major malfunctions, we will be back again in August 2017 with another opportunity to show the world how much you know about college football. Until then, enjoy the PFCC and don't forget about the College Basketball Confidence Contest in March! Thanks for playing dirty-dawg.com!!
