Week 17: NFL (Yuck!) and Jay Pence (Wow!)

by: exRegionalWeenie Jan. 1, 2017

Wow, Week 17 was a real beaut in the NFL. Tom Savage. Brock Osweiler. Mark Sanchez. EJ Manuel. Landry Jones. Matt McGloin. Connor Cook. What do all these QBs have in common?

Eeeeeewwwwww. They all stink (at least by NFL standards). They're all backup-type players yet they all played key roles in Week 17. Heck, even Cardale Jones (yes, that Cardale Jones) and David Fales (no, seriously) got in on the QB action. Combined with the fact that many star players sat out to avoid injury, it made for some tough sledding when it came to making your dirty-dawg picks.

(Ed. Note: Hey, Bears, you drafted a guy named Fales to play QB? Really? I can see the headlines now. "David Fales at Playing QB" and "David Tosses 3 Picks, Fales Chicagoland."

Fail.

Fail

Anywhooo... we could have skipped this awful week, just like many fantasy leagues skip Week 17. But not here at dirty-dawg. We figure this is the type of week that separates the men from the boys and the women from the girls. So who were the men and women among us this week?

Week 17 Top Dawg: Jay Pence Drops a 120-Pointer on Us
Holy cow, Jay Pence, you're da man! Based in Hermitage, TN (part of Nashville), Jay PERFECTLY navigated the Week 17 minefield by scoring 120 points on a 15-0 record! Congrats, Jay! Tim Garner of Friendswood, TX, was a very close second this week with 118 points. Third, fourth and fifth places went to Jane Banks, Andy Patrick, and Jeff Raberding/Brian Burleson (tie), respectively. Nice job you dawgs!

Overall Standings
Almost everyone who entered the week in the Top 10 either moved up or down a couple positions this week. Here's what the standings looked like following the end of the regular season:
1. Joe Kunches (new leader)
2. John Zittel (10 points back)
3. Ben Nelson (a bad week costs our previous leader)
4. Carol Overton
5. Heidi Holland
Places 6-10 are held by Kent Ross, Deanna Wolfe, Ted Champney, Chris Darden and 2011 PFCC champion Jason Hess, respectively.

Is it Done?
Nope. Now it's time for the Super Bowl Blowout. The picking format changes for the playoffs and you're not forced to pick winners and losers for each game. Sounds good, right? Not so fast. You'll rank all 12 playoff teams from 1 (least likely to win the Super Bowl) to 12 (most likely). These picks count a lot because we apply a special scoring technique where the conference championships and Super Bowl count for more points. Newbies - and older types with failing memories - should refer to our e-mails or contest game rules which contain a deeper explanation.

GOOD LUCK!!!
