Joe Kunches Dominates PFCC 2016/Carolina Crushers Group Champs

by: Sugar (February 19, 2017)

Super Bowl 51 was one of the most entertaining championship games in memory, especially if you live in New England. The Falcons were on the verge of making Atlanta great again, and they had all of the Patriot, Brady and Belicheck haters feeling pretty good after scoring (again) shortly after halftime. And then, it all fell apart thanks to collossally bad clock management, a timely Patriot fumble-forcing sack and a couple of Falcon penalties. Or just some Tom Brady magic, however you want to look at it. In the end, Falcon's fans were burying their jerseys they wore during the meltdown and there are now enough Super Bowl rings for each of the Patriot's fingers. Very exciting and entertaining indeed!

And you know what? None of it mattered to dirty-dawgers, because Joe Kunches had this puppy sewn up before the first over-priced Super Bowl commerical was aired. Playing from Niwot, Colorado, Joe ran away from the rest of the field finishing with 1172 points on a 156-63 record. That was good enough for an easy 35 point win on a record that wasn't even close to being the best. As we always say, confidence factors rule in this game. And it absolutely didn't matter which team won the Super Bowl this time around, which was kind of a drag, for everyone except Joe. Congratulations, Joe. It may or may not be a coincidence that this year's runner-up also plays from the state that housed the Super Bowl 50 champion. Joe Zittel of Golden, CO finished with the Silver Bone at 1137 points and a record of 163-76. Heidi Holland of Fayetteville, NC outdid the men sporting a field best record of 164-75 while taking home the Bonze Bone with a final total of 1118. Way to go Joe and Heidi!

Tedd Champney was just out of the bones and finished in 4th place overall with 1109 points. Kent Ross was 5th, Ben Nelson 6th and Alan Rezek finished 7th, while enjoying his NWS retirement. Carol Overton, the PFCC 2007 runner-up finished in 8th place this year while Deanna Wolfe finished in 9th place. Perennial Powerhouse and PFCC 2015 Bronze Bone winner Jon Zeitler rounded out the Top 10. Chris Darden actually finished tied for 10th place via points, but he had 4 fewer wins than Mr. Zeitler. The 2011 Champion, Jason Hess was just 1 point out of the Top 10 and finished in 12th place with 1088 points. Great job to all of these folks for not only making it through a grueling contest but performing at the top of the heap. That ain't easy!!

As far as the Super Bowl Blowout itself, many dawgers correctly had 12 on New England and 11 on Atlanta. But Jay Pence put the best picks together overall finishing with 309 points and the Super Bowl Blowout Championship. Veteran dirty-dawger Anthony Cavallucci was runner-up and only 1 point off the championship pace. Alex Libardini finished 3rd with 304 points, while Justyn Jackson and Josh Lichter tied for 4th with 303 points. Branden Locklear and Alan Rezek tied for 6 with 302 points and champ Joe Kunches, Greg Story, Jared Lee and Dan Noirot all tied for 8th place with 299 Super Bowl Blowout points. Congrats, gentlemen, on some fine blowout picks!

Finally, in group play, Carolina Crushers lived up to their name and crushed the rest of the groups by almost 50 points. The Crushers finished with an average score of 994.83, easily besting We're Here to WOW You, which finished with 948.6 points. Tulsa Twisters finished strong once again, ending up in third place, while a couple other veteran groups, Gulf Coast Rumblers and Boomerbacks also completed the 2016 PFCC strong in 4th and 5th places respectively. And of course, there were many contests with the contest via group play and we hope it made for some good-natured fun and kept the interest in this great American sport going throughout the long season.

So, we will see you all back in September for PFCC 2017. Until then, get ready to start mowing the lawn, planting your gardens and doing whatever else you love to do in the spring/summer. Don't forget the College Basketball Contest in March and April to help bridge the competitive gap a little bit. Thanks for playing dirty-dawg.com!
